Please sign up for the hands-on training during the summer school

To promote interactive experiences at the summer school, we offer three different hands-on training sessions for all participating students. Please select up to two hands-on sessions from the options below. To keep the number of students for each tutorial within preferable limits (8-10 per session), we might have to reorient some of your choices. Thank you for your comprehension.

The basic principles of molecular photofragmentation spectroscopy will be discussed. The experimental method of charged particle imaging will be described, and a laboratory demonstration will supplement the lectures.
The RABITT method (Reconstruction of Attosecond Bursts by Interference in Two-photon Transition) is used for determining the spectral/temporal structure of attosecond pulse train in high harmonic generation. The computer-based tutorial will focus on analysis of experimental data. Two applications of RABITT will be presented: the post-compression of attosecond pulses and the determination of the photoemission delay in photoionization by an attosecond pulse. Software (Labview executable) will be provided during the course, but each student should bring his/her laptop.
Light in the vacuum ultraviolet range (shorter than 100 nm) is not easily focused by conventional glass optics or by mirrors at small incidence angles. Reflection from curved mirrors at grazing incidence offers decent reflectivity and allows good focusing, but such optics are tricky to align. In this tutorial, you will learn how to align parabolic and spherical mirrors with minimal spherical aberrations. Imaging of the focus offers a direct feedback to diagnose the problem of beams astigmatism which is commonly found in such optical setups.
